Goodwill Industries to Host Job and Resource Fair; Helping Veterans Find Their Next Path Forward

November 1, 2022

On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina (GIUMSC) will host employers and community resource groups at M Space (530 Lady Street) in Columbia from 10am – 2pm. The fair offers job seekers the chance to meet directly with a variety of companies about employment and engagement opportunities. Goodwill will also be on-site hiring for retail store positions ranging from Warehouse Associate to Store Manager.

A specific focus of the job fair will be on veterans transitioning back to civilian life. Operation: GoodJobs, a program of GIUMSC, helps veterans in their journey to find their next career, and develop financial independence for themselves and their families. Currently, there are over 365,000 veterans living in South Carolina, with an unemployment rate of 4.4%, while 6.9% currently live in poverty.

The Job and Resource Fair will have private rooms available for on-site screenings and interviews. GIUMSC will also be providing information about their services ranging from career assessments to job training and certification programs.

“At Goodwill, we believe our veterans deserve to live independent and financially stable lives, providing for themselves and their families, and enjoying true belonging within their communities,” said Pat Michaels, U.S. Army veteran and President/CEO of GIUMSC. “To be able to provide this fair for all job seekers – and especially those who’ve served our country - goes a long way in helping us achieve our mission of putting people back to work.”

Employers attending the fair include Allied Universal, Fish Window Cleaning, Palmetto Foods, Palmetto State Armory, BG Multi-Family, and NOVO Logistics. Resource providers Fast Forward HVRP, Dorn VA Medical Center, and SC Mentor will also attend to help anyone with resources they may need.
