12 Days of Goodwill: Day 7

December 14, 2022

‘Tis the season to spread “Goodwill to All!” For 12 days, we’re highlighting program participants and Goodwill staff whose faces and voices tell a story of opportunity, hope, love and perseverance. These stories will be posted daily to all our social media accounts and website. Please share/repost them to spread Goodwill’s uplifting impact in our communities. Here’s Day 7!
Day 7: Kala came to Goodwill after life’s tragedies and struggles seemingly blocked her path forward. She had recently lost both her parents, which left her and her daughter homeless and living in a tent. Realizing she needed a “hand up,” Kala visited a Goodwill Job Connection, where she worked with an Employment Specialist to build the skills she needed to become an ideal candidate for a new career. Through her work with Goodwill, Kala studied job interview preparation, resume building, and developed the soft skills she needed to be successful. Today, Kala works for Freightliner and has a safe home for her and her family.
We place thousands of South Carolinians into meaningful employment and skills training programs each year. And through those services, people like Kala regain their self-worth and are able to enjoy active roles in their communities. We are a locally owned and operated non-profit that – through your support – can continue to extend “Goodwill to all.” You can support our Goodwill by going to: www.goodwillsc.org/give-online/, donating gently used goods at a donation center, shopping in any one of our 40 retail stores, or simply by sharing this post with others
