Goodwill to Launch Midlands’ First Clean Tech Accelerator Lab in Columbia

March 7, 2026

As the first of its kind in the Midlands, this state-of-the-art facility is designed to bridge the skills gap in South Carolina’s rapidly growing green economy. Following the 100% certification success rate of its sister site in Greenville, the Columbia lab will provide students with paid, full-time instruction in high-demand fields, beginning with heat pump installation.

“Our neighbors in the Midlands aren’t just looking for jobs; they are looking for careers that can change their family’s trajectory,” said Monique McDaniels, Goodwill Vice President of Community and Workforce Development. “By the time these students finish this five-week program, they aren’t just ‘trained’ – they are certified, career-ready professionals entering an industry that is desperate for their skills.”

With over 1,700 clean energy jobs openings in South Carolina and a 22% surge in demand for heat pump installers, this lab serves as a direct pipeline to high-paying careers. The program focuses on equity, offering paid training to remove financial barriers for underserved communities, effectively sparking generational wealth through the green revolution.
