Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina (GIUMSC) will host a comprehensive Reentry Symposium on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the SC Department of Archives and History. The event, running from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, is designed to bridge the gap between returning citizens and potential employers while highlighting GIUMSC programs that address the unique needs of those entering the workforce.
South Carolina currently boasts the lowest recidivism rate in the country according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections. However, GIUMSC leadership emphasizes that these outcomes are the result of intentional, collaborative efforts. “Successful reentry doesn’t happen by accident,” said Monique McDaniels, Goodwill Vice President of Community and Workforce Development. “It requires a dedicated ecosystem of support, education, and employer engagement to ensure that every individual has a clear path to professional success and personal stability.”
Following the morning sessions, attendees will participate in specialized workshops from Noon to 2:00 PM, including:
- Career Services for Justice Impacted Individuals led by Beth Woodham.
- The Expungement Process facilitated by the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
- Creating a Positive Reentry Lifestyle led by Lester Young.
The event concludes with a Job and Resource Fair from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, connecting attendees with community partners, leaders, and business owners committed to inclusive hiring.
