A "Win-Win" Opportunity Leads Tara to Goodwill - #SecondChanceMonth
April 29, 2025

April is Second Chance Month, a time dedicated to supporting citizens reentering their communities and the workforce following incarceration, as well as raising awareness for the resources available to them. Throughout the month, Goodwill is recognizing some of these inspirational stories of redemption.
In 2024, Tara faced a daunting - even scary - question: "What do I do now?"
After being incarcerated for 24 years, Tara wasn't sure how to return to life "on the outside." But, that's exactly what Goodwill's Pathway Home program is designed to do - guide returning citizens as they get back on their feet and rebuild their lives.
Once Tara heard about Goodwill's reentry services, she quickly enrolled. Shortly after, she started receiving work-readiness training, transportation assistance, housing assistance, and even clothing for work.
"When Goodwill came and introduced their program to me, there was no doubt in my mind that I would be a success story for them, and they would be a great asset to me. I saw a win/win opportunity," said Tara.
Tara found steady work at a fabrics manufacturing company and quickly showed her potential. Within a few weeks, she was offered a permanent position making almost $20/hour.
"A handout will keep you stagnant," said Tara. "But, a hand up can help you keep going forward."
During this Second Chance Month, we applaud Tara for her commitment to overcoming her circumstances and being living proof of the power of work.
