Defying the Odds: How Goodwill’s GO4 Program Helped Joshua Rebuild His Future
After a near-death experience, medical professionals believed it was unlikely that Joshua would ever walk again. He not only defied those expectations but exceeded them with the support of Goodwill's Growth Opportunities (GO4) program.
After spending several months in the hospital recovering, Joshua was referred to Goodwill's GO4 program through @GangsInPeace, where he was connected with Mission Manager Tamiko Jones. “She changed my perspective on careers and gave me an opportunity and a chance to grow better,” said Joshua. Working closely together, they built a pathway to financial stability and holistic success.
The outcome? A paid apprenticeship at Southeast Detail and Pressure Washing, with uniforms, water-resistant pants, and slip-resistant boots included at no cost!
Joshua serves as an inspiration to all, demonstrating powerful determination by choosing training that would both challenge and strengthen him. Through perseverance, his difficulty with walking subsided while his vision of the future expanded.
Today, Joshua works a full-time position at ADUSA Food Distribution, earning a starting wage of $23.00 per hour, with a long-term plan to attend college and obtain his Commercial Driver’s License.
Joshua’s story reflects growing resiliency, purpose, and pride – and it is only the beginning.
