Jesse Smith arrived at the Goodwill Career and Training Center in October 2025 during one of the most challenging chapters of his life. Having recently lost both his job and his home, Jesse was staying at a community shelter and facing a major hurdle in his job search: he didn’t have a reliable phone for employers to contact him.

Determined to change his circumstances, Jesse met with a dedicated Goodwill Career Specialist in Gaffney, SC. They quickly recognized the immediate need and developed a practical plan to secure him a reliable cellphone and service. Jesse’s commitment was unstoppable; he followed through with the plan, returning two weeks later, phone in hand, and ready for his next steps.

With guidance from his Career Specialist, the foundations for his career search were built; he created a professional email address, discussed his income needs for financial stability, and completed several job applications in the office.

His hard work paid off! Just one week later, Jesse attended a job fair hosted by Adecco, Nestle’s hiring company. He successfully navigated the application process and is now scheduled to start his new job soon!

With stable employment on the horizon, Jesse is already taking charge of his financial future, having created a budget to save for a deposit on a new home. He is excited and optimistic about his journey toward independence, sharing his heartfelt appreciation: “I am very grateful for all your help!” Jesse’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right support, life’s challenges can be overcome.
