A New Chapter at Any Age: Henrietta's Journey to Purpose

December 18, 2025

When the doors to Henrietta Austin’s previous job closed for the last time, it felt like more than just a business shutting down – it felt like a sudden, uncertain pause in her life’s narrative. As the weeks passed, the reality of the situation set in. Bills were mounting, money was getting tight, and the pressure of finding “what’s next” weighed heavily.

At a time when many might feel overlooked by the modern job market, Henrietta received a life-changing tip from a family member: The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), helping adults 55 and older connect with paid training and opportunities.

Henrietta didn’t just want a paycheck; she wanted a path to success. Upon joining the SCSEP program at Goodwill, she stepped into a world of continuous learning. She dove into workshops and computer training, proving that the “digital divide” is no match for someone with determination.

Beyond the technical skills, Henrietta flourished in the collaborative environment. She refined her organizational talents and rediscovered the joy of working within a team. For Henrietta, the program was about more than just filling out a resume – it was about reclaiming her confidence.

Henrietta’s story reached a beautiful milestone recently. Through her hard work, dedication, and unwavering spirit, she didn’t just finish the program – she graduated into a permanent role with Goodwill!

“My greatest accomplishment is steady employment,” Henrietta says. “I truly enjoy coming to work. You can see the difference a single day of training at Goodwill makes.”
