RETAIL GRADUATE OF THE YEAR
Chris Calvert discovered Goodwill thanks to the decision to stop by a Goodwill store one day on his way home from work. There, he learned about Goodwill’s Job Connections and the opportunities available in Goodwill training programs. It didn’t take long for Chris to connect with Employment Specialist Carlos Lopez and begin work as a client in the Retail training program at Goodwill’s E. North St. store. Though his hearing impairment had limited some his employment opportunities in the past, Chris embraced the chance to learn new skills that would help him be successful in the workforce. He earned the respect of his colleagues for his attitude, sense of humor, and strong commitment to his work, and quickly became a person supervisors knew they could count on to “get the job done”. Chris has worked hard and learned many new things during his time at Goodwill, including completing his Forklift Safety Certification. He has enjoyed learning the many different jobs and tasks that make up a successful operation and has appreciated those who mentor him. “I have enjoyed learning so much from the different people,” Chris says. “It’s been very good for me. Even working with the hearing people, they know that even though I’m deaf, I can still do it.” |
