Goodwill to Celebrate America Recycles Day with Computer Drive
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina is inviting everyone to celebrate America Recycles Day on November 15 by donating their old computers, monitors, laptops and other electronic equipment between November 15 and December 15.
“Our computer de-manufacturing program keeps over 8,000 computers a year out of the local landfills,” said Nathan Bland, E-Commerce and Computer Works Manager. “We also refurbish and resell computers that are in good working order, and the proceeds go directly to our mission of helping people find jobs.”
The Goodwill Computer Recycling Center, which was launched in 2006, de-manufactures computers and related equipment for environmentally responsible recycling or resale at Goodwill’s warehouse on Haywood Road in Greenville.
Mr. Bland also noted that computer donors can be confident about the privacy of data on their hard drives because all computers donated to Goodwill are professionally wiped clean, in accordance with Department of Defense standards.
Donations to Goodwill support Goodwill’s job training and placement programs for people in the Upstate and Midlands of South Carolina. Individuals seeking employment can receive assistance with their job search at one of Goodwill’s Job Connections, or train for a specific occupation in one of Goodwill’s training programs.
Computers and related items can be dropped off throughout the year at any Goodwill store or Attended Donation Center. Visit www.goodwillsc.org to find the nearest store or donation center, or to find more information on Goodwill’s programs.
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and special needs become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement. In the past year, Goodwill assisted 17,849 people in their quest for independence and created a potential economic impact of over $47 million through the wages of the 2,839 people placed into employment.
