Goodwill Safety Program Recognized for Excellence by the National Safety Council

A year of significant improvement and landmark achievements in the Safety Program of Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina culminated in special recognition from the National Safety Council at its 2007 National Awards Banquet on October 16 th in Chicago. Goodwill was the recipient of a 2007 “National Safety Achievement Award” in honor of the agency’s efforts and achievements in creating a safe work environment. Goodwill’s Safety Manager, Bill Childs, was also awarded the prestigious “Outstanding Commitment to Safety” award for his commitment to “making the world safer”.

“It’s remarkable that we have come so far in the three short years I have been with Goodwill,” says Safety Manager Bill Childs. “This is a testament to how every associate has placed safety as one of our highest core values.”  

Earlier this year, Goodwill was honored with the National Safety Council’s “Occupational Excellence Achievement Award” recognizing outstanding safety performance and continued improvement, as well as the “Milestone Award” for achieving a benchmark of 641,000 work hours without an accident or injury resulting in time away from work. Goodwill received the Milestone Award in 2006 for reaching 500,000 work hours without a lost-time accident.

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and special needs become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement. In the past year, Goodwill has assisted 9,800 people in their quest for independence and created an economic impact of over $36.5 million through the wages of the 2,400 people placed into employment.
