Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina Welcomes New President and CEO
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina is pleased to announce its new President and CEO Patrick Michaels. Along with a wealth of experience in leading not-for-profits, Michaels brings to South Carolina a sincere passion and enthusiasm for Goodwill and the opportunities it provides for people in need.
“I am excited by the challenges and opportunities that this position presents,” says Michaels. “I take great pride in helping organizations to accomplish their mission and fulfill their vision. I feel confident that I can lead Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina in a manner that will make the board, staff, and community proud.”
Michaels succeeds William “Bill” Wylie, who served as President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina from 2002 – 2007. Wylie announced his retirement and introduced Michaels to employees and community partners at Goodwill’s 2007 Annual Achievement Awards Banquet on September 13 th.
Michaels most recently served as President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of New Mexico. He has also served as President of Goodwill Industries of South Central California and as Director of Goodwill Industries of the Yakima Valley, a division of Tacoma Goodwill Industries in Washington. During his tenure with Goodwill Industries of New Mexico, Michaels served on the Executive Council for Goodwill’s Conference of Executives and as a member of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries International. Prior to beginning his career with Goodwill, Michaels was a Lieutenant with the United States Army.
Michaels holds a Masters of Science degree in Organization Development and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, both from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and special needs become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement. In the past year, Goodwill has assisted 9,800 people in their quest for independence and created an economic impact of over $36.5 million through the wages of the 2,400 people placed into employment.
