September 25, 2008 Goodwill Celebrates 35 Years in South Carolina, Names 2008 Award Winners On September 25th, Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina celebrated an important anniversary. Founded by Lloyd Auten in 1973, Goodwill has served the Upstate and Midlands of South Carolina by offering job placement and training programs for people with disabilities and disadvantages for 35 years. Goodwill will honor this milestone at the 35th Annual Achievement Awards Dinner, which will be held on September 25th at 6:00 pm at the Carolina First Center in Greenville. During its 35th year, Goodwill assisted 16,270 people in their quest for employment and economic independence. Goodwill was directly involved in placing 2,897 people into the workforce, generating a potential economic impact in the Upstate and Midlands of over $48.4 million. The generosity of thousands of donors, shoppers, and supporters in the community made it possible for Goodwill to provide these services. At the Achievement Awards Dinner, Goodwill will recognize nine “Success Award” winners, a special group of individuals who excelled in one of Goodwill’s programs and have gone on to become independent, contributing citizens in the community: Angela Brown – Food Service Success Award These outstanding individuals were selected for recognition from the more than 16,000 who received assistance from Goodwill in the past year. Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and special needs become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement.
