4,372 People Employed as a Result of Goodwill’s Services
Wages of 4,372 Employed Create Potential Economic Impact of at Least $71 Million
A total of 23,376 people received job training and placement services from Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina during the organization’s fiscal year, which concluded June 26th. At least 4,372 people obtained employment as a direct result of Goodwill’s services. Collectively, these 4,372 individuals have the potential to earn more than $71 million in wages during the course of their first year of work.
Services provided by Goodwill include programs that train participants for careers in fields such as Retail, Food Service, and Nursing. The curriculums include instruction in work readiness skills such as personal finance, interview skills, and resume development. Upon completion of the program, participants have the opportunity to complete certification in each respective field. Goodwill provides graduates with additional assistance to help them acquire employment.
In addition to formal training programs, Goodwill Job Connections provide a wealth of resources to help job seekers connect with potential employers and find employment. Services include access to resources like computers and the internet, fax machines, telephones, and job leads and referrals. A trained employment specialist is on site to assist individuals with their job search. Additional services available through Goodwill Job Connections include resume development, interviewing skills, and classes such as Basic Computer Literacy and English as Second Language. Services are free and open to the public; no appointment is needed.
All of Goodwill’s services are funded by donations of gently-used clothing and household items and financial contributions from individuals in our community. “Every opportunity Goodwill has to provide services and help a person become employed is made possible because someone in the community donated,” says Patrick Michaels, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina. “Every donation made to Goodwill, whether it is a shirt, a pair of pants, a computer, or even a car, makes a direct impact on the life of someone right here in our community who is searching for employment.”
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina has 28 stores, 38 donation centers, and 10 Goodwill Job Connections. Goodwill’s next location is scheduled to open on August 19th in Boiling Springs and will include a store, donation center, and Goodwill Job Connection.
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and special needs become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement.
