Cake Decorating Class Newest Element of Training Offered Through
Partnership between Goodwill and BI-LO

There is an art to cake decorating.  Participants in Goodwill’s newest training course know that it is also a skill that can be learned and perfected.  Through a partnership with BI-LO, Goodwill clients are offered the opportunity to learn the intricacies of cake decorating.  Goodwill and BI-LO will host a graduation ceremony for the first class of Cake Decorating students at 11:30 am on Friday, July 23rd at the BI-LO at the intersection of Mauldin Road and Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville.  In addition to the graduation ceremony, students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills with freshly decorated cakes.

The Cake Decorating class is part of a seven-week training program preparing participants for employment in the Food Service industry.  The first week involves instruction in work readiness skills and ServSafe certification, a certificate recognized by the National Restaurant Association.  Upon completion of the Cake Decorating segment, participants move on to five weeks of on-the-job training in the Bakery and Deli departments of BI-LO stores.  Upon completion of the seven-week program, Goodwill will assist graduates in finding full-time employment.

“We are very excited about this new program and are grateful for BI-LO’s support and enthusiasm for this training program,” says Patrick Michaels, Goodwill’s President and CEO.  “BI-LO has been a tremendous partner and has helped Goodwill provide numerous job training opportunities for individuals in our community.”

This program is part of a WIA-funded training initiative for youth between the ages of 18-21 who are also Greenville County residents.  For more information about the WIA program, please visit www.trainmetowork.com.  Goodwill and WIA are equal opportunity employers/programs.  Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.  TTY 711

In addition to the seven-week Food Service training program, BI-LO has provided training opportunities for clients enrolled in Goodwill’s Retail Training program.  Retail Training program participants have received training in BI-LO stores in Anderson and Spartanburg.
