Coalition for Self Sufficiency to Break Ground on Transitional Housing Project

Project will provide homes and assistance for five families working to become independent.

On Monday, July 23rd at 5:00 pm, Goodwill Foundation, Goodwill Industries, Upstate Homeless Coalition, and Greenville Area Interfaith Hospitality Network (GAIHN) will take part in a ground-breaking ceremony for five transitional houses at the corner of Spartanburg Street and Mt. Eustis Street in Greenville. These homes will provide shelter and stability for homeless families for a period of 18 to 30 months while they achieve independence in the Road to Self Sufficiency Program.

The Road to Self Sufficiency Program is a cooperative project that will provide transitional housing, affordable childcare, reliable transportation, education and job training, counseling, and job placement to help local families overcome barriers to independence and assist them in becoming self-sufficient. Each partner provides a pivotal step in the success of the program. Goodwill Foundation provides capital and serves as a focal point for all partners to collaborate. Goodwill Industries will assist in the family selection as well as providing initial job training and job placement for the chosen families. The Upstate Homeless Coalition will build and maintain 5 homes in the Greenline/Spartanburg area that will house the families chosen for the program. GAIHN will assist with family selection and provide these families with weekly caseworker visits to provide encouragement and life skills counseling.

This partnership utilizes the core competencies of several organizations to provide a holistic approach to self-sufficiency. For more information on this project please contact Anthony Liller at (864) 351-0149 or aliller@goodwillfoundationsc.org.
