Goodwill Now Accepting Donations at White Knoll
Goodwill Brings New Career Services and Opportunities to Lexington

Goodwill is now accepting donations at the site of the new Goodwill store and Job Connection location at 118 Knoll Station Drive (across from the Wal-Mart) in Lexington.  These donations will be used to help stock and support the new Goodwill store that is currently under construction and due to open in October of 2009.

The new facility will include a retail store and a donation center, and will also offer a service new to the Lexington area: a Goodwill Job Connection.   The Goodwill Job Connection serves the “dual customer”: the individual looking for a job and the employer looking for employees.

For job seekers, the Goodwill Job Connection provides access to computers and the internet, fax machines, telephones, and job listings.  A trained employment specialist is on site to help job seekers connect with potential employers and find permanent employment.  Job seekers can also work independently if they prefer.  Additional services include resume development, interviewing skills, background checks, and classes such as Basic Computer Literacy.

The Goodwill Job Connection is also a resource for employers.  Goodwill can connect employers with pre-screened applicants, provide space for on-site interviewing, or organize and conduct Job Fairs to help fill open positions.

“Ultimately, Goodwill’s mission is to provide the support people need to become independent, contributing citizens in our community,” said Becky Godbey, Vice President of Career Development Services of Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands SC.  “The Job Connection makes it easy for someone to find employment opportunities and receive guidance to make their efforts most effective.”

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and special needs become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement.  In the past year, Goodwill assisted 16,270 people in their quest for independence and created a potential economic impact of over $48.4 million through the wages of the 2,897 people placed into employment.
