Got Safety?
Goodwill Driver Named Safe Driver of the Year by the National Safety Council

The National Safety Council has awarded Goodwill Industries driver Jeff Halloran with the National Safety Council’s Safe Driver of the Year Award for the South Atlantic Region.  Nominees must meet the minimum requirement of 15 years or 250,000 miles driven without a preventable accident to be considered for this award.

Jeff Halloran has been an employee of Goodwill’s Transportation Department since October of 2007.  He has maintained a perfect driving record for 28 years over one million miles. As a recipient of a regional award, Jeff is one of ten finalists for the 2009 Joseph M. Kaplan Safe Driver of the Year Award.  “Jeff is an outstanding asset to Goodwill and his driving record is impeccable” said Bill Childs, Director of Safety for Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina.  “This award is a direct reflection of Jeff’s commitment to create and maintain a safe workplace.”

In addition to the Safe Driver of the Year Award, the National Safety Council (NSC) honored Goodwill earlier this year with the Industry Leader Award for achieving the top safety performance within its industry in 2008.  The Industry Leader Awards recognize the top 5% of member companies, units, and facilities that have met the criteria and qualified for the National Safety Council’s Occupational Excellence Achievement Award.  Winners are selected based on NAICS code, lowest total incidence rate, and employee work hours.

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and special needs become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement.  In the past year, Goodwill assisted 16,270 people in their quest for independence and created a potential economic impact of over $48.4 million through the wages of the 2,897 people placed into employment.
