Goodwill Store to Bring New Career Services and Opportunities to Lexington

On April 29th, Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina broke ground on a new location in Lexington County scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.  The new facility, located at 118 Knoll Station Dr. in the White Knoll area of Lexington, will employ 20-25 individuals and includes a retail store, donation center, and a service new to the Lexington area: a Goodwill Job Connection.

At the Job Connection, trained employment specialists provide assistance to help job seekers connect with potential employers and find employment, all free of charge.  Access to computers and the internet, fax machines, telephones, and job listings is provided.  Job seekers can work independently if they prefer or receive help from the employment specialist on site.  Additional services include resume development, interviewing skills, background checks, and classes such as Basic Computer Literacy and English as Second Language.

The Job Connection is also a resource for employers.  Goodwill can connect employers with pre-screened applicants, provide space for on-site interviewing, or organize and conduct Job Fairs to help fill open positions.

“Ultimately, Goodwill’s mission is to provide the support people need to become independent, contributing citizens in our community,” said Patrick Michaels, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands SC.  “The Job Connection makes it easy for someone to find the resources they need and receive guidance to make their efforts most effective.”

Job Connection services and employment training opportunities provided by Goodwill are funded by the sale of gently-used merchandise donated by people in the communities Goodwill serves.  For a complete list of Goodwill stores, donation centers, and Job Connections in the Midlands area, please visit www.goodwillsc.org

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and disadvantages become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement.  Last year, Goodwill assisted 16,270 people in their quest for independence and created a potential economic impact of over $48.4 million through the wages of the 2,897 people placed into employment.
