Governor Mark Sanford Proclaims May 3-9, 2009 as Goodwill Industries Week

Governor Mark Sanford has proclaimed May 3-9, 2009 as Goodwill Industries Week. 
WHEREAS, the right of an individual to work to support themselves and their families plays a critical role in the economic health of our communities; and

WHEREAS, some residents of the Palmetto State experience limited job opportunities for various reasons, requiring additional education, training and support to reach their goal of self sufficiency; and

WHEREAS, in addition to employing individuals with disabilities, Goodwill
Industries provides skills training, placement assistance and job-seeking services to people in need; and

WHEREAS, supporting the mission of Goodwill Industries has led to meaningful work and job opportunities for many residents of the Palmetto State.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark Sanford, Governor of the Great State of
South Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 3 – 9, 2009, as

GOODWILL INDUSTRIES WEEK

throughout the state and encourage all South Carolinians to recognize this organization for its efforts and ability to maximize an individual’s contribution to self, family and community.

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people with disabilities and special needs become independent citizens through education, training, and employment leading to job placement.  In the past year, Goodwill assisted 16,270 people in their quest for independence and created a potential economic impact of over $48.4 million through the wages of the 2,897 people placed into employment.
