Goodwill Safety Program Reaches Historic Milestone
On April 14th, Goodwill celebrated an accomplishment that substantiates the tremendous progress the organization has made in workplace safety in recent years. It is a benchmark that few companies achieve, a goal that once seemed out of reach for Goodwill, and a number that is significant under any circumstances: 1 Million.
During the period from June 21, 2007 to April 14th, 2008, Goodwill employees worked a total of 1 million hours without experiencing an accident that required time away from work.
Goodwill has achieved the benchmark of 500,000 “safe hours” twice, first in July 2006 and again in June 2007 before being set back each time. This time around, the hours continued to add up over a span of ten months, and the commitment of Goodwill associates to a safe workplace paid off.
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina is the first Goodwill agency to receive the “Million Work Hours Award” from the National Safety Council.
Goodwill has recently been recognized for its safety record by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and is a 2-time recipient of the National Safety Council’s “Occupational Excellence Achievement Award.”
Now that the count has “safely” reached 1 million; associates are already looking ahead to the next goal: 2 million.
