January 27, 2010 Goodwill Celebrates Graduation of Retail Training Class in Anderson On January 22nd, Goodwill celebrated the graduation of ten participants from its first Retail Training Class in Anderson County. The course is part of a program funded by a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to provide job training opportunities in Anderson and Spartanburg counties. Participants in the 11-week course receive instruction in work readiness skills, including customer service, inventory control, cash handling, merchandising, loss prevention and safety. Program participants also receive practical experience through work in Goodwill’s retail stores. Upon completion of the training program, participants are eligible to take the National Retail Federation’s certification exam and earn a three-year, nationally-recognized certification from the National Retail Federation. Of the ten graduates in the first Anderson class, eight received the National Retail Federation Certification. In addition to the training course and certification, Goodwill provides participants with job placement services and assistance. These services are also available free of charge to any job seeker in the community. The course is also offered in Spartanburg and Greenville counties.
