JOB CONNECTION SUCCESS OF THE YEAR

Mozelle Wilburn

Mozelle Wilburn had all the ingredients for success: a great education, supervisory experience, and a personality that immediately endears her to the people she meets. All Mozelle needed after relocating to Columbia was a job.

Mozelle heard about Goodwill’s services in Columbia and visited the Columbia Job Connection for the first time in March. She was excited to learn about the resources and assistance that were available to her as she searched for permanent employment, and impressed by the personal attention of the Goodwill staff. “It was like home to me,” Mozelle explains. “They really cared. And it wasn’t just me. I saw them treating everyone that came in the same way.”

Stopping in at the Job Connection became a ritual for Mozelle, who made her job search a full-time job in itself. Each day she would pick up six employment leads and spend the next day traveling to businesses to complete applications or drop off her resume. Eventually, her efforts paid off and Mozelle accepted a position with Benedict College as the Manager of Environmental Services.

Mozelle is delighted with her new job, and especially with the opportunity to provide guidance for the members of her staff. And even as she works toward achieving her own goals, Mozelle is reaching out to help others reach theirs. She has inspired many other people to pursue the resources available at the Job Connection and has hired three Job Connection clients for her staff at Benedict College.

“I was given so much,” Mozelle says. “Now it’s my turn to give back.”
