CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAM

Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina, Inc. is offering a Nursing Assistant training program in partnership with Advance Nursing Education Center..  This course provides classroom and supervised clinical training in the basic fundamentals of safe and knowledgeable care giving. The program also offers training in Life and Employability Skills. The program is focused on preparing students for the South Carolina Nurse Assistant Competency Evaluation Testing Program as well as providing job skills and developing attitudes and behaviors necessary for competent caregivers.  After successful completion of the state examination, the graduate is a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) as defined by state and federal laws.  A Certified Nurse Assistant may obtain employment in hospitals, long-term care facilities (nursing homes), care homes, private homes, adult day care, and clinics.

Program Outline: Day Program
Nursing Aide Training:  40 hours Lab/Lecture, 40 hours Clinical
Life and Employability Skills: 35 hours

Enrollment includes:

  • American Heart Association CPR Class
  • CPR textbook (loaner)
  • CNA textbook
  • Class workbook
  • State Exam booklet
  • One set of scrubs
  • Blood pressure cuff and Stethoscope
  • Background check
  • Drug and TB screenings
  • State Exam Review class.

Student must pay a non-refundable administration fee of $25.00 when registering.  The training program pays for the cost of the training, case management, TB, Drug and SLED checks, 1 state certification examination, equipment needed in the class and incentives – a value of approximately $1,500. 

The following are requirements in order to participate in the program.  Clients/ Students participating in the program MUST meet all requirements. Six clients/students will be selected per class. 
           

Step 1 - Requirements:

  • Verify Income (Collect most recent pay stubs, last three months.)
  • Documented Disability or Disadvantaging Condition (EBT Card, DSS Household Summary,       Homeless Letter etc.)
  • Transportation (Provide evidence of reliable transportation; example: Commitment Letter)
  • Criminal Record Check (No Blemishes)
  • Participant must be at least twenty-two years old
  • Lift 25 to 50 pounds 
  • Stand for long durations
  • Minimal visual and hearing limitations
  • Negative Drug Screen and TB test (Tuberculosis)
  • Demonstrate appropriate math and reading level(s) – The Adult Basic Education Assessment
  • Attend ALL pre-screening sessions  (Overview meeting and met criteria for Steps 2- 4)
  • Essay of Intent

Step 2:

  • Negative Drug Screen and TB test. (Tuberculosis)
  • Met Step 1 requirements

Step 3:  Attended and completed Life and Employability Skills training – 1 week  

Step 4:

  • Attended Orientation
  • Twenty Five Dollar Non-Refundable application fee at the time of acceptance

Step 5:

  • Attended ALL pre-screenings and met criteria for each
  • Attend class and clinical

Frequently Asked Questions:

How much does it cost?  There is a $25.00 non-refundable administrative fee, paid at the time you are accepted into the program.

Who can participant?  Individuals over the age of 22 who meet ALL the above requirements. 

How long is the training?   4 weeks including the life and employability class.  Follow up will be conducted for one year.

Am I guaranteed a job upon completion? Once training has been completed, you will take the State Exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.  This certification is required for employment. We assist with job placement but do not guarantee it. 

Where is the training?  Training takes place both at Goodwill Industries on Haywood Road and Advance Nursing Education Center on East North Street.

What do we learn in the Life and Employability Skills training?  Goal settings, budgeting, resume writing and interviewing skills, to name a few.
