BUSINESS SUPPORT SERVICES GRADUATE OF THE YEAR
JOSEFA LAMB
Josefa Lamb was left a young widow with a small child after the death of her husband three years ago. Josefa, who is originally from the Philippines, was faced with finding a way to support herself and her daughter with no family, no employment history in the United States, and the difficulty of a language barrier.
“I never worked before in my life,” says Josefa. “And then I’m thinking ‘This is not good for me. I’m going to work’,” Josefa says. A sign advertising Goodwill’s Job Training program at the Sulphur Springs facility near her home caught her attention, and she decided to see what was offered. There, she discovered and enrolled in Goodwill’s Business Support Services training program. “I thought I’m the one to pay the money because I want to learn,” she says with a laugh. “But they’re the one paid me the money.”
As Josefa progressed through the training program, she made friends, learned more English, and became much more outgoing. Her outstanding performance set an example for Business Support Services and eventually led to an opportunity with Carolina Manufacturing, where Josefa is thrilled to be employed today. “I’m just happy that I got a job,” she says, her face brightening. “I’m excited and happy to work with them. It just makes me feel good. Goodwill has helped me a lot.”
