WIA SUCCESS AWARD
TANISHA GREEN

Tanisha Green had no work experience and was unsure of the path she wanted to take when she first contacted Goodwill in May 2008.  After considering the options, Tanisha decided to pursue the WIA Retail training program, a special training program for youth ages 17-21.  Though Tanisha initially did well in the program, she soon realized that she wanted a career that better suited her interests.  After taking a career interest inventory, Tanisha decided to pursue training as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Tanisha completed her training with flying colors, but the trainer noted that she lacked interpersonal skills and asked her to repeat the training.  Though Tanisha was not happy with that prospect, she agreed to work on her outlook and skills and tried again.  She was successful the second time around, completing the class with an “A”.  She is now happily employed as a CNA, and knows that she is successful because she made the choice to be.

“It changed my future,” Tanisha says of her experience with Goodwill.  “If I hadn’t come to the Goodwill and they helped me the way they did, I probably don’t know where I’d be right now.

“I’d advise anybody young, that’s around my age, if they want to go ahead and move to the future, I’d advise someone to go to Goodwill.  Goodwill is a great place to start.”
